Job summary

Springer Nature in New York/Jersey City seeks a Commissioning Editor to help grow Open Access content by creating Topical Collections. You’ll work with Editorial Board Members, data scientists, and authors to identify topics and engage Guest Editors, editors, and researchers.

You will lead commissioning strategies, apply insights from market intelligence, and coordinate with cross‑functional teams to ensure timely, high-quality content for a growing journal portfolio.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a STEM discipline with a keen interest in Science.
• 3–4 years’ experience in the publishing industry or science research.
• Familiarity with the Research Process and the Scientific community.
• Excellent understanding of the research publishing landscape and Open Access journals.
• Direct experience of managing a journal or journal portfolio is desirable.
• Strong data analysis and reporting skills; ability to query data is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead commissioning strategies for key journals, applying Business Insights, Editorial Skills, and Decision Quality to drive portfolio growth.
• Define and implement best practices across the Collections lifecycle, leveraging Project Management and Publishing Workflows & Systems.
• Identify and prioritize Collection topics using Market Intelligence and data-driven analysis.
• Monitor topic-level market trends and translate insights into strategic opportunities.
• Conduct competitor analysis to identify growth opportunities and support informed decisions.
• Build relationships across editorial communities, balancing stakeholders and communicating effectively.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop solutions for topic modeling and content acquisition.
• Manage the Collections pipeline against ambitious publication targets using strong project management.
