Job summary

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, or related Engineering discipline.
  • Eligible for full-time employment on or before Summer 2028.
  • Eligible to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or via sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Support a safety-first culture and comply with all safety policies and procedures
  • Assist in the development of instrument datasheets for various Pressure, Temperature, Flow, Level field instruments
  • Participate in the preparation and review of P&IDs and instrument indexes.
  • Assist with instrumentation procurement activities, including requisition creation, technical bid evaluations, vendor communication and purchase order issuance
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to coordinate design efforts and resolve technical issues
  • Participate in engineering and design project meetings and attend various vendor workshops and Lunch n Learns
  • Support project deliverables, documentation and reporting
  • Opportunity to participate in site visits during construction and commissioning

Your Job

Optimized Process Designs, LLC (OPD), a Koch Engineered Solutions company, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Instrumentation Engineer Intern to join our team for Summer 2027 in Katy, TX. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands‑on experience supporting instrumentation and controls engineering within engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects for natural gas and gas liquids processing facilities.


As an Instrumentation Engineer Intern, you will work closely with experienced engineers and project teams to support instrumentation design, procurement, and project execution from early development through construction and commissioning.


Our Team

For over 45 years, OPD has provided turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction services for some of the largest natural gas and gas liquids processing facilities in the United States. Our capabilities have expanded to include full custom design/build solutions for large-scale facilities.


You will be part of a collaborative, cross-functional engineering team working across disciplines including Process, Mechanical, Civil/Structural, and Electrical. Our team is focused on delivering high-quality projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule.


What You Will Do

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)


  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechanical, or related Engineering discipline

  • Eligible for full-time employment on or before Summer 2028

What Will Put You Ahead


  • Internship, co-op, or project experience related to instrumentation, controls, or electrical systems

  • Familiarity with engineering drawings such as P&IDs or wiring diagrams

  • Experience working collaboratively in a team environment
