Optimized Process Designs (OPD), a Koch Engineered Solutions company, seeks a Civil/Structural Engineer Intern for Summer 2027 in Katy, TX. You will support civil/structural design for EPC projects in natural gas and petrochemical sectors under senior engineers.

You’ll gain hands-on experience across design through construction, with site visits, and exposure to foundations, steel supports, pipe racks, and EH&S practices while developing technical and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
• Eligible for full-time employment by Summer 2028.
• U.S. work authorization without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Support and contribute to civil and structural design for EPC projects.

Your Job

Optimized Process Designs, LLC (OPD), a Koch Engineered Solutions company, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Civil/Structural Engineer Intern to join our team for Summer 2027.

This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting civil and structural engineering efforts across engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects in the natural gas and petrochemical industries. You will work alongside experienced engineers and designers to support project development from early design through construction, commissioning, and turnover.

This role is located in Katy, TX. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Our Team

For over 45 years, OPD has provided turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction services for some of the largest natural gas and gas liquids processing facilities in the United States. Our capabilities have expanded to include full custom design/build solutions for large-scale facilities.

You will be part of a collaborative, cross-functional engineering team working across disciplines including Process, Mechanical, Civil/Structural, and Electrical. Our team is focused on delivering high-quality projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

What You Will Do

• Support and contribute to - execute and create civil and structural engineering design for EPC projects in partnership with experienced engineers
• Support development of structural designs for steel supports, pipe racks, platforms, and industrial foundations
• Assist in reviewing project documentation
• Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to support project execution
• Participate in engineering and design coordination meetings and document key discussions
• Opportunity to participate in site visits to better understand drawings and field installations
• Gain exposure to foundation design for equipment such as vessels, pumps, and compressors
• Support a strong safety culture by participating in EH&S initiatives and following safety protocols

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Civil Engineering or a related STEM discipline
• Eligible for full-time employment on or before Summer 2028
• Eligible to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or via sponsorship

What Will Put You Ahead

• Exposure to structural engineering concepts such as steel design or foundation design through coursework, projects, or internship experience
• Experience or interest in structural design software such as RISA or STAAD

• Experience with innovation and generative AI software such as Copilot or PowerBi.
