Purpose:

We are currently hiring a OP Nurse Coordinator I (RN) for full-time support at UPMC Mercy and Jefferson Medical Oncology/Infusion offices in Pittsburgh and West Mifflin, PA. The position offers a $6,000 sign-on bonus and a regular full-time daytime schedule, Monday through Friday, managing daily nursing activities across locations. The role involves collaborating with medical oncology teams to care for a large patient population.

The Professional Nurse Coordinator is a Registered Nurse responsible for comprehensive patient care, utilizing independent judgment, and maintaining communication with patients, families, physicians, and community resources to promote outpatient health. Demonstrates commitment to community and nursing profession.

Responsibilities:
  • Accountable for professional development and improving patient care quality. Participates in governance, goal setting, and supports practice improvements. Serves as an engaged team member, responding to care team needs and leading daily management activities, including supervising staff and clinical operations.
  • Develops individualized care goals with patients, involving them as partners, and coordinates care with physicians. Assists with assessments, evaluations, and patient education, ensuring holistic and continuous care. Manages outpatient follow-up and liaises with external support services.
  • Builds productive relationships internally and externally, demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, and cultural competence. Maintains work-life balance and reports safety hazards. Supports departmental planning and innovations.
  • Participates in quality improvement efforts, identifying opportunities, enhancing patient satisfaction, and supporting research-based practices. Prepares for regulatory reviews and advocates for patients within the practice.
  • Establishes positive relationships with staff, physicians, and patients. Handles multiple priorities effectively, demonstrating clinical judgment, critical thinking, and communication skills. Maintains physical stamina for patient care activities.
  • Uses critical thinking to identify issues across clinical, social, safety, and psychological domains. Communicates effectively, documents comprehensively, and promotes safety and satisfaction. Builds compassionate relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Applies adult learning principles to teach patients, families, students, and staff. Provides detailed education and supports development of staff and students. May serve as a preceptor and coordinate training activities, fostering an environment of continuous learning.
