Job summary

The County of Thurston Environmental Health Division is seeking an Onsite Sewage System Operation & Maintenance Program Supervisor to lead a team of five staff in protecting water quality and public health in Thurston County, Washington. This role oversees licenses, data analysis, program management, budget, and grant work, with field-based duties and occasional remote work up to one day per week.

A BS in environmental health or related field, state certification, and driver license are

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in environmental health, biology, bacteriology, or a related field.
• Three years of professional environmental health experience with public contact; one year at EH Specialist II or equivalent.
• Current Washington State Driver License or suitable accommodation.
• Must be recognized as Registered Sanitarian within 18 months of hire.
• Ability to use a computer and software for word processing, analysis, retrieval, and tracking.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement water quality and septic operations projects and programs.
• Issue, withhold, or withdraw licenses and permits.
• Review environmental data, program effectiveness, and results.
• Develop recommendations for policy makers and managers.
• Write department policies and procedures for assigned sections.
• Coordinate activities with other programs, agencies, and jurisdictions.
• Manage and direct staff; provide guidance and training.
• Oversee staff selection, progress, and performance evaluations.
• Develop and manage the section's annual budget.
• Prepare grant proposals and manage grants and interlocal agreements.
• Represent the department in regional multi-agency groups.
• Support 24/7 response during public health emergencies and related activities.
