Job summary

Virginia Department of Health is seeking an Environmental Health Technical Specialist (State Employee) to lead the onsite soil program as an advanced practitioner. You will mentor staff, provide expert consultation, and help shape program training and performance input.

The role requires certification preparation within 24 months and completion of required trainings, with a strong emphasis on environmental health principles and regulatory enforcement.

Qualifications

• Considerable knowledge of environmental health principles and practices.
• Knowledge of microbiology and epidemiology related to communicable disease.
• Ability to interpret, apply laws, regulations and policies.
• Ability to train and mentor program staff.
• Must complete training within 24 months and obtain VDH Certified Onsite Sewage System Technical Specialist.
• Experience in environmental health specialization preferred.

Responsibilities

• And serves as environmental health technical leader, mentor and SME for onsite soil program.
• Provides consultation and training to staff and assists in staff evaluations.
• May provide input into performance evaluations of staff.
