Job summary

Actalent in Cary, IL is seeking a QC Technician (Microbiologist) for a 100% on-site contract-to-hire role. You will perform routine and non-routine microbiological testing in a cGMP lab, including bioburden and antimicrobial testing, with strong emphasis on documentation and data integrity.

The role is bench-heavy (about 80%) with some desk work, and offers growth into higher-level positions. Bachelor’s in Microbiology or related field required; Master’s degree welcomed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Microbiology or related field.
• Experience in a microbiology lab environment preferred.
• Familiarity with cGMP principles in labs preferred.
• Experience with compendial microbiological testing methods preferred.
• Hands-on microbiology techniques such as bioburden and growth promotion tests.
• Aseptic technique to prevent contamination and ensure accurate results.
• Strong attention to detail and accurate documentation.
• Ability to perform repetitive lab tasks with consistency.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and non-routine microbiological testing of materials and products in a cGMP QC lab.
• Conduct bioburden, growth promotion, antimicrobial effectiveness testing, and microbial ID.
• Execute compendial tests per guidelines and internal procedures.
• Document testing activities and results in compliance with data integrity rules.
• Support data review and assist with laboratory investigations as needed.
• Maintain and troubleshoot lab equipment; coordinate routine service.
• Manage lab supplies and ensure proper storage and labeling.
• Maintain clean, organized workspaces and follow established workflows.
• Follow safety protocols and communicate status of testing to leadership.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, or related field

Master's degree in Microbiology (welcome)
