Job summary

Helion in Everett, WA seeks a PhD candidate for a 12-week summer onsite computational research internship. You will work with our plasma simulation suite to study a specific aspect of the machine, contribute to developing predictive capabilities, and collaborate with a focused team.

The role requires a PhD-track student with experience in plasmas, GPA 3.0+, and proficiency in Python, C++, or MATLAB. Onsite work in Everett is required for the summer 2027 period.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a PhD in Physics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field, with relevant experience in plasmas.
• GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Experience working with plasma simulation codes (e.g. PIC, Vlasov codes, MHD).
• Scripting and analysis in Python, C++ or MATLAB.

Responsibilities

• Be responsible for using Helion’s computational suite of tools to study a particular aspect of the machine, which could include FRC formation, translation, merging, or compression.
• Work with your team and mentor to develop a simulation study and develop a set of results.
• Develop a report and present your findings to the broader research team at Helion.
