Job summary

Willamette Valley Cancer Institute in Eugene, OR, is seeking a Coding Specialist to join our oncology coding team. Under supervision, you will assign ICD-10 and CPT-4 codes to charts and reports, supporting the Compliance Program and ethics standards.

This full-time onsite role requires CPC certification, a high school diploma, and medical terminology training. One year of medical coding experience is required; three years is preferred. The position offers benefits and a competitive pay scale.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a course in medical terminology.
  • CPC certification required.
  • Minimum one year of coding medical experience; three years preferred.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT-4 coding systems desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Abstracts clinical and demographic information to assign ICD-10 and CPT-4 codes.
  • Identifies principal and secondary diagnoses with accuracy based on standards.
  • Codes with 97% accuracy based on QA reviews.
  • Records procedures and assigns appropriate procedure codes.
  • Requests diagnosis from physicians when information is incomplete.
  • Determines and records required medical information.
  • Updates coding procedures and coordinates with staff on charts.
  • Maintains confidentiality of medical information.
