Job summary

Computercraft Corporation seeks an experienced Library Conservation Technician to repair, rehouse, and conserve a wide range of materials for the National Library of Medicine (NLM) on the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland. You will perform treatments, create protective enclosures, maintain the collection, and support digital documentation and inventory workflows.

The role requires at least three years of book/manuscript repair experience, disaster salvage expertise, and strong written/verbal

Qualifications

Three+ years of experience in book and manuscript repair and rehousing.
Experience in disaster salvage, response, and recovery of collection materials.
Experience with conservation treatments including solvents, stain reduction, adhesive removal, mending tears, and flattening of paper collections.

Responsibilities

Repair materials from 19th century to present, including bound volumes and manuscripts, using conservation best practices.
Design and construct protective enclosures (portfolios, phase boxes, clam shells) for diverse collection items.
Perform routine collection maintenance and apply NLM stamps and bookplates.
Provide photography and document treatments in an online database.
Update work orders in Ex Libris Alma and track items in workflows.
Identify supplies, assist with orders, and train staff as needed.
Assist with salvage, mold remediation, and emergencies affecting collections.
