Job summary

WesTech is seeking a Laboratory Manager to lead the daily operations and development of its water treatment laboratories in Salt Lake City, Utah. The role emphasizes hands-on, on-site leadership for biological and physical/chemical labs, ensuring safety, quality, and timely results to support engineering and operations.

The position may involve up to 25% travel and requires a strong track record in lab management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant laboratory science or engineering field.
• 10+ years in laboratory, engineering, or related roles.
• 5+ years in laboratory leadership or management.
• Experience running biological and physical/chemical laboratories.
• Knowledge of safety, biosafety, and hazard controls.
• Ability to coach, develop staff and manage priorities.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

• Lead safe, compliant lab operations for biological, chemical and analytical work.
• Manage labs as a single coordinated function with separate controls.
• Supervise and develop laboratory personnel and succession planning.
• Set priorities and visibility of workload, capacity and schedules.
• Oversee readiness: samples, inventory, instruments, maintenance, calibration, records.
• Ensure QA/QC practices and documentation support reliable results.
• Partner with project sponsors to staff and deliver lab projects.
• Lead continuous improvement for safety, quality, and customer service.
• Primarily on-site leadership with 25% travel.
