Job summary

Vast is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to lead on-site EHS operations at the Mojave Test Site. This full-time role reports to the EHS Manager and focuses on safety program implementation, compliance, and personnel safety across hazardous operations, facilities, and environmental activities.

The ideal candidate brings 3–5 years of EHS experience in industrial settings, can work in a startup-like environment, and is able to lift up to 50 lbs and handle harsh conditions.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience overseeing EHS program aspects in an industrial or hazardous environment.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding start-up atmosphere.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varied environmental conditions.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate to implement site-specific safety programs (Heat Illness Prevention, Confined Space Entry, Overhead Crane safety, Powered Industrial Trucks).
• Represent the EHS Department and collaborate with all company departments on EHS standards and policies.
• Oversee regulatory compliance with CAL OSHA, RCRA, EPA, SCAQMD, DOT, DTSC, and CUPA.
• Maintain communication with Operations about projects impacting EHS planning and permits.
• Coordinate drills and communicate hazardous operations status with MASP.
• Conduct inspections and audits of safety equipment and work areas, and communicate corrective actions.
• Manage hazardous waste storage areas, documentation, and spill supplies.
• Lead incident data gathering and follow-up on corrective actions; provide insights to remote EHS team.
• Draft and post Lockout/Tagout procedures; support Job Hazard Analyses and EH&S training.
