Job description

POSITION PROFILE:

Responsible for the quality delivery, pick-up, and relocation of customer packages and mail in a safe manner and according to customer requirements. The position requires federal DOT compliance and the ability to meet all Delivery Safety Standards.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Ensures proper receiving, sorting, and PO processing.
  2. Ensures packages and mail are properly loaded and secured in the boxed van/truck.
  3. Ensures proper pick-up of mail and packages from customer pick-up stops/areas.
  4. Ensures that mail and packages are delivered to the correct delivery points.
  5. Maintains log books in accordance with DOT regulations (electronic or manual).
  6. Responsible for pre and post-trip reviews, ensuring that the vehicle (van/truck) is safe, clean, and compliant with all DOT and state laws.
  7. Participates in safety programs.
  8. Pre-calls customers when applicable.
  9. Demonstrates strong customer service skills.
  10. Identifies customers' needs and determines appropriate action; refers calls to the appropriate party.
  11. Maintains professional appearance per the site dress code.
  12. Ensures all paperwork is signed and properly processed.
  13. Loading/off-loading trucks may apply.
  14. Follows all accident/incident reporting guidelines and procedures.
  15. Meets productivity/quality standards relative to the assigned job responsibility as outlined by the manager.
  16. Operates and uses warehouse equipment (e.g., forklift, stair climber, pallet jack) as required.
  17. Lifts up to 50 pounds as part of the job.
  18. Assists with proper back-up training for new delivery drivers on current routes.
  19. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Certifications):
  • Safe driving record and history.
  • Eligibility to drive a commercial vehicle according to FMCSR regulations.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license in accordance with company policy.
  • Pass a road test.
  • Valid and current medical card required.
  • Must be at least 20 years of age and properly licensed in the current state of residence.
  • High school diploma or equivalent education is required.
  • Valid commercial driver's license required (if applicable per state).
  • Ability to read maps and use electronic GPS systems.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must be able to physically handle oversized and overweight packages.
  • Ability to identify at-risk behaviors and make quick corrections.
  • Strong customer presentation and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with using and learning smartphones/tablets with handheld electronic technology.
  • Must possess adequate reading and math skills and the ability to write legibly.
  • Certification may be required for operating warehouse equipment (e.g., forklift, stair climber, etc.).
Working Conditions, Mental and Physical Demands:
  • Working conditions may result in serious injuries if proper lifting or moving procedures and/or rules of the road are not followed.
  • Frequent stooping, bending, squatting, and kneeling are required to service equipment at floor level.
  • Physical effort is required in lifting mail/packages weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Work assignments are diversified and may require interpreting, comprehending, and applying complex materials, data, and instructions.
  • Typically involves a variety of conditions, including office, warehouse, and van/truck environments with adequate lighting, ventilation, and normal ranges of temperature and noise level.
  • Ability to work independently is essential.
