Job summary

PPG is seeking a Chemical Technician to join our Dearborn, MI facility onsite. The role reports to the Plant Manager and requires collaboration with engineers and technicians to ensure safe, efficient production.

Responsibilities include monitoring chemical processes, testing quality, collecting samples, and maintaining lab equipment. 2 pm – 10 pm shift on weekdays, with weekend overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3+ years of experience in a lab or chemical operations environment.
• High school diploma or GED is required.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with technicians and engineers to troubleshoot production issues and share testing workloads.
• Ensure plant safety rules are followed, PPE usage is proper, and hazardous waste is handled correctly.
• Test and monitor quality of chemicals, pretreatment baths, E-coat tanks, and wastewater systems.
• Perform routine physical and chemical testing on metal parts for coating weight, alkalinity, acidity, conductivity.
• Collect daily chemical samples from the production line and record precise measurements.
• Maintain and calibrate lab equipment (pH meters, conductivity meters, balances) and perform general equipment upkeep.
• Operate and monitor plant equipment via HMI consoles to control automated part flows.
• Provide coverage for peers during absences to maintain continuous production.
• Be available for weekend overtime shifts driven by production schedules and demand.
