Job summary

Newark YMCA is seeking a Camp Executive Director for Camp Linwood MacDonald in Sandyston, NJ. The role oversees programs, staff, budgets, grants, safety, and community relations for a 200+ acre camp, under the President/CEO.

The Executive Director will reside on-site in the Director’s house, coordinating with ACA and other agencies, while ensuring mission-driven, value-based operations and comprehensive reporting and compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Education, Environmental Education, or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive leadership experience related to residential camping and conference services and outdoor education as well as youth programming.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in staff management.
• Experience in J-1 visa Employment for the camp summer seasonal International staffing.
• Knowledge and experience with the American Camp Association.
• Knowledge and experience writing and securing grants/contracts with local, county, state, and federal agencies.
• Knowledge and experience of budgeting and cost control.
• Strong administrative and record maintenance skills.
• Strong human relations and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage overall goals and objectives of all relevant camp components.
• Ensure high-quality program and service delivery including activities and food services.
• Plan for long-term capital development of buildings, equipment and properties.
• Prepare and maintain budget for the Camp and report to finance/accounting.
• Manage grants and contracts and renewals, and identify potential grants.
• Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise staff, and handle evaluations and coaching.
• Develop promotional campaigns and marketing strategies for the Camp.
• Serve as liaison to camping groups and related agencies.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and maintain licenses with ACA.
