Job summary

The YMCA of Newark and Vicinity seeks a Camp Executive Director for Camp Linwood MacDonald YMCA, NW New Jersey. The role requires residence on-site, leadership of camp programs, staff management, budgeting, and regulatory compliance.

Salary range is $71,000 to $75,000 annually. The successful candidate will oversee environmental, educational, conference services, and community relations while upholding the YMCA’s core values.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Education, Environmental Education, or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive leadership experience related to residential camping and conference services and outdoor education as well as youth programming.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in staff management.
• Experience in J-1 visa Employment for the camp summer seasonal International staffing.
• Knowledge and experience with the American Camp Association.
• Knowledge and experience writing and securing grants/contracts with local, county, state, and federal agencies.
• Knowledge and experience of budgeting and cost control.
• Strong administrative and record maintenance skills.
• Strong human relations and interpersonal skills.
• Strong conflict resolution skills and abilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills including negotiation and presentation skills.
• Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
• Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, data entry, utilizing emails and internet.
• Excellent time management and strong organizational skills.
• Must have strong attention to details.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage overall goals and objectives of all relevant components of the camp programs including environmental, educational and conference services.
• Ensure high-quality program and service delivery including activities and food services.
• Plan for long-term, capital development of buildings, equipment and properties.
• Prepare and maintain budget for the Camp; monitor expenditures and prepare reports.
• Ensure grants and contracts and renewals are processed and managed within policy.
• Recruit, train, supervise staff, and manage payroll and performance.
• Develop promotional campaigns and marketing strategies for the Camp.
• Serve as liaison to camping groups and related agencies.
• Ensure regulatory compliance with state/local regulations and ACA licenses.
• Maintain records and reports for external and internal reporting.
