Job summary

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Data Engineer to support the U.S. Navy. This 100% onsite role is based in Norfolk, VA; San Diego, CA; or Jacksonville, FL.

You will design, build, and maintain Azure-based data pipelines using Azure Data Factory (ADF), SQL, ETL, and Power BI to turn unstructured data into reliable insights for enterprise reporting. The ideal candidate has 3–4+ years of hands-on data engineering, strong SQL and Power BI experience, and an active DoD Secret clearance.

Qualifications

• 3–4+ years of hands-on Data Engineering experience focused on enterprise data transformation, staging, aggregation and pipeline development.
• Hands-on experience building Azure Data Factory (ADF) pipelines and integrating data from multiple systems/databases.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with SQL databases, writing queries and working with enterprise data.
• Hands-on experience with Power BI, building reports/dashboards and working with underlying data.
• Experience with ETL, data integration, data transformation, data staging, and data aggregation.
• Experience connecting legacy or disparate systems and moving data between systems/repositories.
• Ability to independently evaluate unfamiliar datasets and determine ingestion, transformation, storage and preparation for reporting.
• Active DoD Secret security clearance
• IAT Level II certification
• Experience with Python, PowerShell, XML, SSIS, or Azure/cloud data environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Azure-based data pipelines to ingest, transform, stage, aggregate, and prepare data for enterprise reporting.
• Connect legacy and enterprise systems to establish reliable data flows between databases, repositories, and downstream reporting platforms.
• Analyze new datasets to determine ingestion, transformation, storage, and aggregation strategies.
• Develop and optimize SQL queries and database solutions to support data extraction, transformation, validation, and reporting.
• Support the development of Power BI dashboards and reports with accurate, clean data.
• Troubleshoot and resolve data pipeline and integration issues ensuring data quality, reliability, security, and performance.
• Collaborate with technical teams to identify opportunities for ETL, data integration, automation, and BI improvements.
