Job summary

Vancouver Public Schools is seeking a Paraeducator, Learning Support to provide one-on-one assistance to a student with individualized education needs. The position runs 6 hours per day, 9 months per year, supporting literacy, math, and behavior goals under the supervision of a certificated teacher.

Qualified applicants will have a high school diploma or GED, with additional education or ParaPro assessment preferred, and demonstrated interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with official transcripts.
• Option: Associate's degree or 72 quarter/48 semester credits or ParaPro score 461+.
• One year of related experience with children preferred.
• Experience in an educational team preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, problem solving and conflict resolution skills.

Responsibilities

• Treat co-workers, supervisors, students, parents with dignity and respect.
• Serve as a positive role model for students.
• Support certificated staff in developing goals for each student.
• Assist with classroom activities and individualized instruction.
• Produce teaching materials and assist with data entry and record-keeping.
• Monitor student behavior under teacher guidance.
• Attend training meetings to broaden expertise in working with students with special needs.
