Job summary

University of Southern California is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to provide therapeutic care in the outpatient setting, coordinating patient care and education for patients and families. The role supports a multidisciplinary team and requires solid oncology nursing experience, strong communication, and strict adherence to policies and safety.

Qualifications

• BSN required; grandfathered BSN if hired prior to 12/2019.
• At least 6 months oncology RN experience required.
• CA RN license required; BLS provider certification needed.
• Chemotherapy certification within 6 months of hire.
• Oncology certification preferred (OCN).
• Ability to communicate in English (spoken and written).
• Ability to work independently with minimal direction.

Responsibilities

• Follows policies and procedures; accesses online manuals and references.
• Translates learned knowledge into nursing process on patient care.
• Completes nursing assessments and screenings at each appointment.
• Interprets assessments and formulates nursing diagnoses.
• Maintains problem, medication, and allergy lists.
• Administers medications as ordered and reassesses as needed; delegates when appropriate.
• Documents encounters accurately; ensures consent and medication lists are current.
• Provides patient and family education per diagnosis or treatment plan.
• Maintains and supports clinical equipment and logs; reports defective items.
• Communicates with health care team using SBAR and ensures timely handoffs.
• Manages time effectively and prioritizes duties; adheres to breaks.
• Complies with safety and regulatory requirements; dual identifiers, timeouts, etc.
• Participates in quality and professional development activities.
