Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator is responsible for coordinating clinical trial patients and data analysis for therapeutic and supportive care studies.

Employment Qualifications

• Education: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
• Experience: 2 years’ experience in an established oncology or research program preferred but not required.
• Licensure: Current Licensure with the South Carolina Board of Nurse Examiners.

Essential Job Functions

1. Screens potential patients for protocol eligibility, presents trial concepts, oversees informed consent, and enrolls patients.
2. Coordinates patient care in compliance with protocol requirements, disburses investigational drugs, and provides patient education.
3. Reviews patient conditions, adverse events, medication use, and protocol compliance in collaboration with physicians, documenting findings thoroughly.
4. Possesses clinical assessment skills relevant to research patients and families.
5. Ensures accurate and timely data collection, documentation, entry, and reporting; participates in monitoring and auditing activities.
6. Participates in training and educates staff regarding clinical research.
7. Prepares orders with physicians to ensure protocol compliance; communicates study requirements and adverse events.
8. Orders procedures and medications as delegated by physicians.
9. Assists with quality management and data collection.
10. Collaborates with research staff, physicians, and healthcare team to deliver coordinated patient care.
11. Communicates relevant information to team members.
12. Engages in professional growth through education, literature, in-services, and workshops.
13. Participates in orientation of new staff and externs.

Other Functions

• Ensures research site quality by complying with SOPs, GCP, and regulations.
• Supports hospital compliance and adheres to policies.
• Performs additional duties as assigned and supports other departments as needed.
• Familiar with nursing policies and procedures within the health system and oncology program.
• Displays excellent communication skills and knowledge of clinical and nursing standards.
• Demonstrates self-directed learning and ongoing education.
