Job summary

Virginia Oncology Associates in Chesapeake is seeking an Oncology RN to join our team for full-time, in-person care. You will administer chemotherapy and supportive medications, assess patient responses, and coordinate care under physician supervision.

Requirements include graduation from an accredited nursing program, active RN licensure, and BCLS certification. Oncology experience is strongly preferred; OCN certification is a plus. Travel between office sites may be required.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program is required.
  • RN license must be active in the state.
  • Oncology experience strongly preferred; BCLS/OCN preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Administers chemotherapy, hydration, and other meds under physician direction.
  • Monitors and assesses therapy effectiveness using clinical skills.
  • Identifies changes in patient condition and initiates appropriate action.
  • Performs venipuncture and manages central venous access devices.
  • Maintains patient flow and provides phone triage as assigned.
  • Documents care elements and communicates with physicians and staff.
  • Assists Medical Assistants and coordinates patient care as needed.
  • Assesses patient and family needs throughout treatment.

Overview

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for an Oncology RN to support our office in Chesapeake.

Employment Type: Full Time

Compensation Range: $31.85 - $64.75. Actual pay is determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs.
Responsibilities
  • Administers chemotherapy, hydration, and other medications under the direction and supervision of a physician
  • Assesses and monitors therapy of patients using appropriate technical skills under the direction and supervision of a physician
  • Assesses patients for changes in condition, including but not limited to abnormal labs, x-rays, scans and drug reactions. Initiates appropriate action.
  • Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central venous access devices and alternate delivering systems
  • Maintains efficient and appropriate patient flow
  • Phone triage as assigned
  • Documents all elements of care
  • Serves as a resource to the Medical Assistants
  • Communicates all pertinent information and any interventions to the physician or advanced practice provider
  • Assesses patient and family needs
Qualifications
  • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education required; BSN preferred
  • Oncology experience strongly preferred
  • Current RN state license required
  • Current BCLS certification required
  • OCN certification preferred
  • Must be willing to travel between offices as needed
