Job summary

Virginia Oncology Associates in Chesapeake is seeking an Oncology RN to support our office. This is a full-time, in-person role in the Hampton Roads area.

You will administer chemotherapy and other medications, monitor therapy, and collaborate with physicians. Oncology experience preferred; RN license and BCLS required; travel between offices as needed.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
• Oncology experience strongly preferred.
• Current RN license and BCLS certification required.
• OCN certification preferred.
• Willing to travel between offices as needed.

Responsibilities

• Administers chemotherapy, hydration, and other medications under physician supervision.
• Assesses and monitors therapy using appropriate technical skills under physician supervision.
• Detects changes in patient condition from labs, imaging, or symptoms and initiates action.
• Performs venipuncture and maintains central venous access devices and ports.
• Maintains efficient patient flow and participates in phone triage as needed.
• Documents all elements of care and communicates with the physician or APP.
• Acts as a resource to Medical Assistants and supports the care team.
• Assesses patient and family needs to tailor care plans.

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for an Oncology RN to support our office in Chesapeake.

Compensation Range: $31.85 - $64.75. Actual pay is determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs.

Responsibilities

• Administers chemotherapy, hydration, and other medications under the direction and supervision of a physician
• Assesses and monitors therapy of patients using appropriate technical skills under the direction and supervision of a physician
• Assesses patients for changes in condition, including but not limited to abnormal labs, x-rays, scans and drug reactions. Initiates appropriate action.
• Performs venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central venous access devices and alternate delivering systems
• Maintains efficient and appropriate patient flow
• Phone triage as assigned
• Documents all elements of care
• Serves as a resource to the Medical Assistants
• Communicates all pertinent information and any interventions to the physician or advanced practice provider
• Assesses patient and family needs

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education required; BSN preferred
• Oncology experience strongly preferred
• Current RN state license required
• Current BCLS certification required
• OCN certification preferred
• Must be willing to travel between offices as needed
