Job summary

Vir Biotechnology, Inc. is seeking a Senior Director, Clinical Research Oncology Program Executive to serve as the development team leader and single-point accountability for one or more oncology programs.

This role sits at the intersection of clinical development and corporate execution and requires deep oncology drug development expertise. The position is based in San Francisco with a strong expectation of in-office presence at least 3 days per week and close collaboration with executive

Qualifications

• 15+ years of biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience with substantial oncology drug development experience.
• Proven success leading cross-functional development programs in a matrix environment.
• Deep understanding of oncology clinical development across early and late stages.
• Experience as Medical Director, Clinical Research Physician, Program Team Leader, or similar leadership role.
• Strong strategic thinking, integrating scientific, clinical, regulatory, operational, and commercial considerations.
• Exceptional executive communication, facilitation, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Experience presenting to executive leadership, governance committees, boards, and external stakeholders.
• Track record of advancing an oncology program through major value inflection points.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.

Responsibilities

• Serve as cross-functional leader and single point of accountability for one or more oncology development programs.
• Define and drive overall program vision, development strategy, milestones, and integrated plans.
• Lead cross-functional teams to align objectives, timelines, resources, and risk mitigation.
• Partner with executive leadership and governance committees for strategic decisions.
• Provide oversight on budgets, investments, and resource allocation for programs.
• Guide development strategy, trial planning, data interpretation, and key program decisions.
• Represent programs at senior leadership meetings, governance reviews, and regulatory interactions.
• Mentor team members to strengthen program leadership capabilities.
• Own the integrated development plan and go/no-go decision framework.
• Chair development teams, establish rights and accountability, resolve issues with recommendations.
• Ensure translational medicine, pharmacology, biomarkers, and companion diagnostics strategies.
• Guide indication prioritization and lifecycle planning based on scientific rationale.
