Job summary

Brown University Health seeks a Patient Consultant to coordinate navigation for at-risk cancer patients, guiding families through the healthcare system and overcoming barriers to quality care.

Responsibilities include coordinating referrals, helping access support services, and accompanying patients to visits, with Spanish public outreach as needed. Must be bilingual (Spanish) with healthcare communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bilingual (Spanish), both oral and written proficiency required.
• Analytical skills in evaluating patients to plan and provide navigation.
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences including professional staff, patients, families, and community partners.
• Strong organizational skills to maintain files, records, and data.
• Proficient typing skills to prepare materials.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate referral appointments with health professionals (genetic counselor, nutritionist, psychiatrist, social workers).
• Assist patients in gaining access to support services including financial assistance, transportation, and programs.
• Triages for needed services across product or service lines.
• Accompany patients to medical visits and coordinate follow-up care.
• Provide education and counseling regarding disease and treatment.
• Enhance patient satisfaction by addressing support needs during illness.
• Participate in ongoing quality assurance activities.
• Report information for grant compliance as needed.
• Engage in outreach for language barriers and underserved populations.
• Publicly speak in Spanish at outreach programs serving at-risk populations.
