Texas Oncology in San Antonio, TX is seeking a Patient Education Nurse to join our oncology team. Under minimal supervision, you will provide professional nursing care while adhering to standards and coordinating with the interdisciplinary team to support patients and families.

The role emphasizes patient teaching, symptom management and collaboration with physicians; nursing experience in oncology, valid RN license and BLS are required.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred.
• RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Five years nursing experience, including at least one year in oncology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
• Assesses health status by interviewing patient regarding current status and medical history; collects and records nursing assessment and interventions.
• Administers therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician; prepares and administers medications/blood products as prescribed.
• Triages patient phone calls as needed and coordinates consultations, pre-testing, diagnostic tests or procedures.
