Job summary

UPMC Shadyside’s Medical Oncology team is seeking Nursing Assistants and Patient Care Technicians for casual opportunities in 6 Main Medical Oncology. You will assist with ADLs, monitor vital signs, and support the nursing staff under RN direction.

Training is provided, including nursing assistant/EIC training; BLS/CPR required. The role emphasizes patient comfort and safety, with PPE supplied and a clear progression ladder within UPMC.

Qualifications

• Provide routine patient care (ADLs, vital signs, data recording).
• Capable of working under RN/physician direction while maintaining safety.
• BLS/CPR certification preferred; CNA certification encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Assist with ADLs (bathing, feeding, toileting, mobility).
• Check vital signs and document in EMR.
• Assist with specimen collection and simple procedures as directed.
• Support nursing staff with unit activities and call lights.
• Maintain patient comfort, dignity, and safety at all times.
• Distribute supplies and assist with transportation of patients.
