Job summary

OHSU Community Hematology Oncology Laboratory in Portland, OR seeks a Medical Laboratory Scientist to provide technical support for clinical testing across hematology, chemistry, and urinalysis. The MLS will monitor quality control, perform instrument maintenance, and troubleshoot analytical systems while ensuring accurate results and proper reporting in the EMR.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field and MT/MLS certification within 90 days of hire
• Alternatively, 2-year MLT program with MLT/ASCP certification and 4 years clinical lab experience
• Bachelor's in chemical/biological field with four years as Medical Laboratory Technician and ASCP/AMT preferred

Responsibilities

• Perform hematology, chemistry, urinalysis and microscopy testing with accuracy and speed
• Prepare patient samples, determine acceptability, and report results via LIS/EMR
• Validate results and notify providers of critical values
• Calibrate analyzers and perform routine maintenance; troubleshoot as needed
• Perform QC/QA tasks and document issues; follow safety and HIPAA regulations
• Operate EPIC EMR and Beaker/EMR systems
• Maintain laboratory supplies and inventory control
