Job summary

MercyOne Dubuque Cancer Center Oncology seeks a Medical Assistant (MA) to support daily operations and patient care. The role assists physicians, prepares patients, collects vital signs, documents encounters, and performs basic clinical procedures.

The MA also coordinates patient flow, maintains accurate records in the EHR, handles referrals and prior authorizations, and supports communication among patients, families, providers, and resources to ensure a positive experience.

Qualifications

• Must have completed Accredited Medical Assistant program.
• MA Certification/Registration preferred prior to hire and required within one year.
• Experience in oncology or ambulatory care is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians and other healthcare providers in delivering patient care.
• Prepare patients, obtain vital signs, document encounters, and perform basic clinical procedures.
• Coordinate patient flow and maintain accurate medical records in the EHR.
• Support care coordination, referrals, and prior authorizations as needed.
• Schedule appointments and manage patient messages and communications.
• Facilitate a positive patient experience in a team-based oncology setting.
