What To Expect (Job Responsibilities)

  • Abstract a wide range of medical data from Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and code it in compliance with established data standards
  • Confirm completeness and accuracy of data collected/documented by physicians and hospital staff
  • Assess benchmarking reports and collaborate with quality data owners/customers
  • Identify and code the primary site of cancer, understanding the potential for spread to other organs
  • Maintain monthly incomplete lists and participate in quality control activities

What Is Required (Qualifications)

  • Must have an Associate's Degree
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience
  • Required certifications: Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) and Oncology Data Specialist-Certified (ODS-C)
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, tumor classification, and staging systems
  • Ability to function independently with little supervision

How To Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience with EPIC and CRStar software
  • Familiarity with data collection software such as Premier and Digital Innovation Registries
  • Previous experience in a cancer registry or oncology data role
