Job description

Job Title: Oncology Data Specialist

The Oncology Data Specialist abstracts patient diagnoses with reportable cancer by medical staff physicians of Cone Health. This role provides support for cancer program development, ensures compliance with data reporting standards, and serves as a valuable resource for cancer information, with the ultimate goal of preventing and controlling cancer.

This is a part-time position -- 10-15 hours per week.

Responsibilities:
  1. Abstract a wide range of medical data from the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and code it in compliance with established data standards, adhering to organizational guidelines.
  2. Help confirm the completeness and accuracy of data collected/documented by physicians, hospital staff, or physician office personnel.
  3. Assess benchmarking reports under supervision and meet with quality data owners/customers within the department, hospital system, and providers to better understand the data and its collection.
  4. Support the utilization of data collection software (e.g., Premier, Digital Innovation Registries, and other vendors).
  5. Participate in the development and implementation of quality control activities.
  6. Assist in confirming the reportability of assigned cases in suspense under direct supervision.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Education: Associate's Degree
  • Experience: 1 year
  • Licensure/Certification: Oncology Data Specialist, ODS (formerly Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR))
