Schedule: Monday - Friday (no weekends) - 7:30 am - 4 pm

Implements and monitors procedures to comply with New Jersey State Cancer Registry requirements, American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, and the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers standards. Ensures that the Penn Medicine Princeton Health Cancer Program maintains ACoS CoC and NABPC Accreditation.

Accountabilities

  • Identify (case-finding), accessioning, and abstracting new cancer cases in inpatient and outpatient settings, maintaining high accuracy (95-100%) and meeting productivity quotas. Analyze data for cases not required by Federal or State but meeting specific requirements.
  • Digest complex clinical information to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and validity in the Cancer Registry software. Understand clinical pathways to determine treatment types based on site, extent of disease, cancer type, and NCCN guidelines.
  • Review data for completeness and accuracy. Pursue missing data by contacting outside physicians, hospitals, and other registries.
  • Manage and maintain lifetime follow-up data on all analytic patients.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of cancer data to relevant authorities.
  • Maintain compliance with accreditation standards and assist with re-accreditation preparations.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and data security.
  • Participate in departmental and organizational meetings, traveling onsite as needed.
  • Cooperate with the State Department of Health in supplying requested data.
  • Prepare oncology-related reports for staff, physicians, and external organizations.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and department QA processes.
  • Complete ongoing productivity, quality, and professional development assessments, including personalized educational content if needed.
  • Stay updated on current trends and advancements in oncology data management through literature, seminars, and conferences.
  • Complete annual education requirements per NCRA to maintain active Oncology Data Specialist credentials.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree and 2+ years of experience in the Cancer Registry, including at least 1 year of abstraction experience as an Oncology Data Specialist in a hospital setting.
