Actively participates in continuing education to stay abreast of all applicable changes in the cancer industry with regards to coding and compliance.

The value you’ll bring to the team:

  • Serves as the Cancer Registry content expert responsible for identification of potential cancer registry candidates in strict compliance with standards and abstracting rules set by federal, state, and national accrediting body requirements.

Utilizes multiple avenues to obtain follow-up such as phone calls, physician offices, written communication, and other sources.
  • Maintains a professional work environment that is conducive to achieving accuracy and productivity goals. Completes independent validation of abstraction prior to registry submission.
  • Responsible for seeking opportunities to maintain clinical expertise to incorporate the latest developments and trends related to the cancer registry and national clinical guidelines. Attends educational, registry, or other conferences and training as appropriate.
  • Participates in Quality Assurance peer review, as a reviewer and reviewee. Timely correction of abstractions based on edits generated, or additional information/reports received to meet national and state registry guidelines.
  • Participates in special projects or initiatives as assigned, to improve the quality and outcomes for patients in the Cancer Institute.
  • Adheres to hospital policy for protecting patient confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines.

Qualifications

  • 2 years cancer registry abstraction experience.
  • Current and valid Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) certification.
