Job Description Summary

This is a field-based and remote opportunity supporting a sales team in the CA geography, covering San Francisco, Sacramento, and LA. Novartis cannot offer relocation support; only apply if this location is accessible to you.

The Oncology Area Business Leader is responsible for leading and developing a team of Oncology Sales Specialists to meet and exceed sales goals, helping Novartis reimagine cancer care. Job Responsibilities
  1. Recruit, develop, retain, mentor, and lead a diverse team to achieve strategic sales objectives, establishing accountability through KPIs and performance management.
  2. Model leadership by fostering a shared vision, setting clear expectations, promoting accountability, enabling team members, and challenging the status quo to improve processes.
  3. Ensure effective orchestration of account calls by coordinating resources to meet customer needs with vitality.
  4. Develop and implement a customer-centric business plan in collaboration with engagement and cross-functional partners to enhance customer experience and demand.
  5. Participate in the Regional Leadership team to develop regional goals, execute business strategies, and foster team development and culture.
  6. Embed a customer-focused, results-oriented culture where teams are engaged, encouraged to speak up, collaborate, and learn from failures.
  7. Maintain in-depth knowledge of clinical, access, reimbursement, territory management, and omni-channel marketing tools to mentor team members during field contacts and coaching sessions.
  8. Use analytics platforms to inform decisions, identify risks and opportunities, and optimize resource deployment such as face-to-face meetings and cross-functional collaboration.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • At least 3 years of sales leadership experience in oncology, specialty pharma/biotech, or a regulated environment; internal candidates may qualify with ELDP completion or 2+ years of recent pharmaceutical/biotech sales management.
  • Proven success in leading and inspiring sales teams, communicating strategic product strategies, and thinking strategically with innovative solutions.
  • Leadership experience in sophisticated selling environments, with success in biopharmaceutical sales to specialty and institutional customers.
  • Residency within the territory or within 100 miles, with ability to travel 60-80% and a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading sales teams in large practices, hospitals, IDNs, and understanding reimbursement processes.

Position levels are based on experience: Level I (3+ years), Level II (5+ years), Senior (8+ years). Driving is an essential function; a valid driver’s license is required. COVID-19 vaccination policies depend on customer requirements and local laws. Salary ranges vary by level and are subject to market fluctuations. The role includes benefits, potential bonuses, and other compensation elements. Visa sponsorship is not available. The role requires successful completion of initial training.
