Job summary

The University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City seeks an Assistant Professor in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences with a focus on Onco-Psychiatry. The role combines clinical care for medically complex oncology patients with teaching, supervision, and scholarly activity within a joint appointment with KU Medical Center and KU Health System.

Responsibilities include inpatient/outpatient psychiatric assessments and treatments, collaboration with oncology teams, participation in tumor

Qualifications

• PhD/Doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA- or CPA-accredited program.
• Licensed or licensable in Kansas and Missouri by the time of appointment.
• Completion of an APA-approved clinical internship.
• Preferred: one-year post-doctoral oncology/health psychology experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide evidence-based psychological assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for oncology patients and their families.
• Deliver individual and group psychotherapy focused on coping, adjustment, anxiety, depression, grief, and quality of life.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary oncology teams in inpatient and outpatient settings to support patient care and treatment planning.
• Participate in tumor boards, case conferences, and care planning as appropriate.
• Participate in the professional education of psychology interns, practicum students, postdoctoral fellows, and medical trainees.
• Engage in scholarly activity and collaborative research opportunities within and outside the university.
