Job summary

Oregon State University’s Marine Operations unit in Newport, Oregon, seeks hourly, short-term Motorboat Operator Training Course Instructors for up to one year. These on-call instructors deliver hands-on, competency-based MOTC instruction across classroom, dockside and on-water settings under the supervision of the Boating Safety Officer.

Ideal candidates have MOITC completion and recent MOTC teaching experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work with diverse learners.

Qualifications

• Completion of the Motorboat Operator Instructor Training Course (MOITC) or equivalent.
• Documented experience teaching MOTC or equivalent within the past 3 years and again within the past 5 years.
• Demonstrated skill in teaching adults and operating small boats in varied environments.
• Ability to drive university vehicles and comply with safety policies.

Responsibilities

• Deliver established MOTC curriculum in classroom, dockside and on‑water settings.
• Tailor instructional approaches for adult learners and OSU research personnel.
• Create and revise teaching aids, checklists and learning materials.
• Collaborate with the Boating Safety Officer and instructors for policy alignment.
• Maintain instructional logs and compliance records for audits.
