Job summary

National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) seeks an Employee in Charge (EIC) in Knoxville, TN to provide essential on-track safety services for freight railroads, transit systems, and state DOTs. The role involves coordinating work on rights-of-way and ensuring safety compliance.

Travel is extensive (50–85%). Requires proficiency with tablets and smartphones, strong communication, and ability to complete required training. Compensation ranges from $28 to $37 per hour with benefits listed.

Qualifications

• Must be proficient with tablets, smartphones and comms tools.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Willingness to travel 50–85% of the time.
• Valid driver’s license.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years’ railroad experience (preferably Maintenance of Way).
• Ability to complete Federal, Client, and/or Company Training.

Responsibilities

• Provide On-Track Safety: set up derails, track signs, and safety tools.
• Prepare daily field reports and report rule violations.
• Provide job-site coordination.
• Maintain radio contact with Dispatchers and Train Crews.
• Conduct mandatory, clear briefings with crew before track entry.
• Enforce Railroad, State, and Federal policies.
