Job summary

Cushing Terrell is hiring an Alternative Energy Engineer in Training to join our Missoula office on-site. You will assist in designing PV systems, battery storage, and microgrids for commercial and utility-scale projects, reading plans and drafting one-line diagrams under a licensed engineer.

This role offers exposure to senior engineers on a small high-growth team, with potential travel for site visits, and opportunities to grow toward FE exam or EIT certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related energy field, or 2–3 years of relevant design experience.
• Zero to three years of job related experience.
• Basic knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems and design practices.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Strong written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Draft and revise electrical design drawings for solar, battery storage, and microgrid systems under licensed engineer supervision.
• Perform load calculations and develop one line diagrams for electrical services.
• Apply NEC/IEEE code considerations for grounding, conductor sizing, and conduit fill.
• Calculate solar generation and system sizing using PVSyst and Homer Grid/Pro Grid for various project scales.
• Analyze utility tariffs to estimate payback timelines for clients.
• Coordinate with architectural and civil teams by reading plans to produce contract documents.
• Take on ambiguous project scopes and fill in technical details as you grow into the role.
