Job summary

QuantumScape is seeking a Firmware Engineer to own the battery pack firmware platform, including bare-metal and RTOS drivers, for next‑generation solid-state lithium‑metal cells. You will define MCU pinouts, implement protection features and power sequencing, and optimize sleep power while enabling SOC/SOH estimation and robust firmware upgrade paths.

Collaboration with ODM partners and hardware engineers will be essential for bringing up new platforms and validating firmware through regression

Qualifications

5+ years writing BMS firmware for Li-Ion battery packs
Experience with bare-metal and RTOS firmware
Experience in SOC/SOH estimation algorithms
Familiarity with configuring peripherals and writing drivers

Responsibilities

Create a firmware platform for the battery pack with bare metal/RTOS and drivers
Define pinouts of microcontrollers for peripherals
Design protection functions with redundancy and precise timing
Power sequencing and pre-charge control for inrush current limiting
Define states and transitions for all operating modes
Ensure low operating and sleep power consumption
Create firmware read/write protections and upgrade schemes
Collaborate with ODM partners to validate firmware protocols
Bring up hardware platforms and resolve issues with hardware engineers
Provide firmware validation and regression test plans
