Job summary

City of Minneapolis is seeking a Security Operations Center officer to monitor building security systems, manage access, and respond to incidents on-site. The role includes coordinating with dispatch, issuing access cards, and participating in emergency drills to protect City facilities and staff.

Responsibilities cover nightly patrols, incident reporting, public-facing customer service, and collaboration with Homeless Response Team and CPED. A valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Must demonstrate clear English communication in speaking and writing.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Proven customer-service skills in security settings.
• CPR, First Aid training required.
• Proficient with standard office software.
• Knowledge of fire codes and related ordinances.
• Experience with monitoring systems and incident reporting.
• Strong typing and data-entry skills.
• Ability to drive a City vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Monitor Security Operations Center building security systems, including access control, alarms, cameras, emergency systems, and radio dispatch.
• Receive calls for assistance and incident reports, triage and dispatch security or call 911 as needed.
• Initiate emergency notification system for active shooter or severe weather events.
• Issue photo access cards and manage access levels for employees and contractors.
• Participate in Building Emergency Control during emergencies and drills.
• Assist Homeless Response Team and CPED with encampments and patrols.
• Perform nightly building inspections and respond to off-site situations via mobile patrol.
• Assist MBC security staff for large meetings and protests; monitor City Hall cameras and dispatch for MBC security.
• Monitor and patrol underutilized areas and oversee security contractor adherence (Securitas).
• Provide customer service support for visiting employees and guests.
• Administer incident management database for safety and emergency reports.
• Perform routine patrols and respond to emergencies, disturbances and service calls.
• Facilitate after-hours access for Youth Connection Center and deliveries; support after-hours events.
• Log and disperse lost and found items per City ordinance; act as contact for requests.
