Job summary

The Neighborhood Center, Inc. is seeking a School Based Crisis Counselor to support students across Schoharie County. You will provide screening, assessment, and crisis de-escalation, serving as a key resource for school staff and families.

The role requires NY LMSW/LCSW/LMHC licenses and at least two years of mental health experience. You will work on-site in schools, coordinate care with partners, and participate in ongoing training.

Qualifications

• Licensed in NY as LMSW, LCSW, LCSW-R, LMFT or LMHC per NYS Education Dept.
• Two years of experience providing mental health services.
• Valid NY state driver’s license with reliable transportation.
• Knowledge of mental health and substance use issues affecting children and adults.
• Knowledge of system-level resources and coordination across partners.

Responsibilities

• Provides short-term crisis intervention and safety planning in schools.
• Maintains accurate documentation of client contacts in the agency system.
• Delivers mental health evaluations and crisis interventions, and makes referrals.
• Places follow-up calls to families and community resources when needed.
• Collaborates with school personnel and community partners during crises.
• Documents interactions in web-based software accurately and timely.
