Job summary

Mid South Steel in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Safety Manager to lead our safety program across fabrication facilities and construction sites. This full-time, on-site role focuses on planning, directing, and enforcing safety practices to protect employees, clients, subcontractors, and the public while ensuring compliance with OSHA and other regulations.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of construction safety management experience (Field steel fabrication and erection preferred).
• Strong knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and applicable 29 CFR 1910 standards.
• Experience with cranes, rigging, structural steel erection, forklifts, MEWPs, and fall protection.
• Excellent incident investigation and root cause analysis skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and safety management software.
• Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the company's safety program for fabrication facilities and construction job sites.
• Conduct regular jobsite inspections and audits.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, customer, and company safety requirements.
• Investigate incidents, near misses, vehicle accidents, and property damage events; identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Develop and track corrective action plans through completion.
• Conduct new hire orientations and required safety training.
• Deliver training including: OSHA Construction Safety, Fall Protection, Rigging and Signal Person, Forklift/Powered Industrial Truck, MEWP/Aerial Lift, Hazard Communication, PPE.
• Review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Pre-Task Plans, Lift Plans, and Safe Work Procedures.
• Monitor subcontractor safety performance and ensure compliance with contractual safety requirements.
• Manage OSHA recordkeeping, injury logs, and required safety documentation.
• Monitor leading and lagging safety indicators and prepare weekly and monthly performance reports.
• Conduct safety meetings and toolbox talks.
• Perform audits for equipment inspections for fire extinguishers, forklifts, aerial lifts, rigging gear, and fall protection equipment.
• Support DOT and fleet safety compliance of site deliveries.
• Coordinate emergency response planning and drills.
• Promote continuous improvement through hazard recognition, employee engagement, and safety initiatives.
