Job summary

Valero is seeking a Safety Engineer to interpret state and federal regulations, assess impact, and drive cost-effective compliance with Operations. You will collaborate with Regional Safety Engineers to implement best practices and ensure regulatory adherence across the site.

The role involves developing and delivering training, maintaining compliance records, and negotiating with agencies. On-site duties at the McKee refinery, with career growth in a supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related science required.
• Experience interfacing with regulatory agencies is required.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver safety training.

Responsibilities

• Understand and communicate federal/state safety regulations to Operations.
• Develop and implement cost-effective compliance solutions.
• Create and maintain safety procedures and training materials.
• Maintain records to demonstrate regulatory compliance and interact with inspectors.
• Negotiate with agencies on interpretation of regulations.
• Support site safety initiatives and best-practice sharing across regions.
• Work with Operations to ensure regulatory compliance while maintaining flexibility.
• Evaluate process changes for safety impact and perform MO to ensure safety.
• Hold signature authority to issue releases against standing orders as needed.
