Job summary

HarbisonWalker International is seeking a Refractory Support Specialist I to serve as an on-site technical liaison for one or two accounts, coordinating with Customer Service and Sales to deliver cost-effective refractory solutions and support. The role involves lining, relining and repairing furnaces, ladles and tundishes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to safely use brick saw and bricklaying equipment to lay brick.
• Requires working knowledge of refractory lined units.
• Ability to operate a jib crane and ensure proper rigging of loads.
• Ability to safely operate a forklift and various hand/electrical tools.
• Ability to read, understand and follow work orders and directions.
• Must detect and correct unsafe conditions and maintain quality.
• Proven organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
• Basic computer skills; Excel is a plus.
• Previous construction or manufacturing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret refractory lining drawings; lay brick in ladles, furnaces, tundishes, etc.
• Assist customer staff with refractory installation methods (gunite, pouring, ramming, pumping, ceramic fiber, firebrick).
• Prepare ladles, furnaces, tundishes for repair and relining.
• Observe product performance; perform inspections and document findings.
• Monitor stock levels; place replacement orders with Customer Service.
• Perform preventive maintenance on refractory equipment; document activities.
• Maintain accurate refractory reports and inventory counts.
• Promote safety and 5S standards; participate in toolbox talks and trainings.
