Job summary

Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC is seeking a Remote Safety Observer for the Patient Attendant Safety Aide Float Pool. This PRN on-site role supports the nursing team by virtually observing patients via approved telehealth systems and reporting changes to bedside staff.

Responsibilities include continuous observation of patients, documenting observations in the electronic health record, escalating safety concerns, and assisting with equipment setup and handoffs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• In-patient hospital experience preferred; nursing/medical program enrollment encouraged.
• BLS certification preferred; CPI certification encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Constant and direct observation of the patient virtually using telehealth systems.
• Monitor changes in the patient's physical, emotional, and behavioral state.
• Communicate status to bedside nursing and virtual nursing teams.
• Document observations in the electronic health record.
• Escalate unsafe events via alarm or redirection.
• Assist with setup of carts and troubleshooting audio/video issues.
