Job summary

Oakland County is seeking a Paralegal/Legal Assistant to support legal procedures, perform research, and prepare case materials in a fast-paced public-service environment. You will compile and review documents, track case files for attorneys, and liaise with probation officers and other agencies to obtain case-status information.

The role requires ABA-approved certification or degree, strong organizational skills, and the ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.

Qualifications

• ABA-approved Paralegal or Legal Assistant certificate or degree.
• Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical.
• Successfully complete the six month probationary period.
• Additional desirable qualifications include law office experience, ability to follow complex instructions, strong organizational skills, knowledge of office practices and computer applications.

Responsibilities

• Assist with legal procedures, research, and case preparation.
• Research primary and secondary legal sources.
• Compile, analyze, and report relevant legal information.
• Review and track case file information for accuracy and completeness.
• Contact probation officers and other outside agency representatives to obtain case-status information.
• Assist attorneys in court, depending on the area of assignment.
• Perform related filing, documentation, and clerical duties.
• Maintain accurate, organized, and confidential case information.
