Job summary

Jacobs is seeking an on-site Mechanical Engineer for a critical data center project near Baton Rouge, LA. You will oversee field installation, coordinate between construction and design teams, and guide commissioning activities to ensure safe, reliable mechanical infrastructure.

The ideal candidate brings 10+ years in mechanical design, construction or operations, with experience on HVAC, chilled water, CRAH/CRAC systems, and strong communication skills to drive issue resolution and schedule

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 10+ years of mechanical design, construction, commissioning, or operations experience; or 5+ years in hyperscale data center environments.
• Experience with chilled water systems, cooling plants, CRAH/CRAC systems, piping systems, and mission-critical environments.
• Strong understanding of specifications, codes, and industry standards.
• Ability to evaluate field conditions and provide practical solutions.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary on-site representative for HVAC, cooling, piping, plumbing, and other mechanical systems.
• Perform daily site observations and assess installation progress and workmanship.
• Coordinate mechanical design clarifications and field solutions with project stakeholders.
• Facilitate responses to RFIs, submittals, equipment substitutions, and field conflicts.
• Support reviews of equipment layouts, utility routing, and coordination between trades.
• Participate in constructability reviews, BIM coordination activities, and mockup evaluations.
• Identify and document mechanical installation deficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
• Support factory testing, bench testing, startup activities, and commissioning preparation.
• Coordinate with QA/QC and commissioning teams to resolve installation issues.
• Attend project meetings and provide technical guidance on mechanical systems.
• Issue weekly reports summarizing observations, risks, corrective actions, and schedule impacts.
• Proactively identify design, quality, and schedule risks and support resolution strategies.
