Job summary

Birdon America, Inc. in Bayou La Batre, AL is seeking a Machinist III to perform precision machining and propulsion component installation on vessels. This on-site role requires strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on machining experience.

You will read drawings, set up portable equipment, and coordinate with engineering and production teams to ensure alignment tolerances and QA standards are met.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on machining experience.
• Ability to read drawings and follow alignment procedures.
• Experience with portable machining equipment.
• Proficient in alignment tools and measurement techniques.
• Able to work in confined spaces, elevated areas and outdoors.
• Preferred marine propulsion installation and alignment experience.
• Familiar with chock fast/grouting systems and foundation prep.

Responsibilities

• Perform field machining, flange facing, line boring, and drilling onboard vessels or in construction areas.
• Install and align propulsion components (shafts, bearings, couplings, engines, Z-drives).
• Prepare foundations and choking for machinery installations.
• Interpret work packages and coordinate with engineering and production teams.
• Set up portable machining equipment and verify alignment tolerances.
• Support loadouts, installations, and final shaft alignment processes.
• Ensure all work complies with marine standards and QA requirements.
