Job summary

Volunteers of America Los Angeles is seeking a Maintenance Assistant I to handle minor repairs and routine grounds maintenance at the assigned complex. Reporting to a Maintenance Supervisor, you will work independently with flexibility in hours and ensure safety standards are met.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, a California driver’s license, and at least 1 year of facilities maintenance or construction experience. Bilingual abilities preferred; on-site work is required.

Qualifications

• Must pass fingerprint clearance and background checks.
• Ability to work under emotional stress with challenging clients.
• High School Diploma or GED; California driver's license with clean record.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in facilities maintenance or construction.
• Preferred formal training in a construction trade (plumbing, electrical, masonry, carpentry, HVAC).
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintains interior and exterior of assigned buildings, parking lots and grounds.
• Performs minor repairs (carpentry, plumbing, painting, refurbishing, landscaping).
• Keeps tools and stock in good order and follows maintenance checklists.
• Checks buildings for safety concerns and complies with VOALA regulations.
• Drives company vehicle for pick up and delivery of supplies.
• Other duties as required.
