Job description

This is a full-time, on-site Electrical Engineer role based in Conroe, TX. The Electrical Engineer will perform forensic investigations related to electrical systems, including incident site inspections, evidence collection, and documentation of conditions. Day-to-day responsibilities include analyzing electrical failures, power distribution issues, and equipment performance; reviewing drawings, specifications, and codes; and preparing clear, technically sound written reports. The role involves collaborating with other engineers and laboratory staff to test hypotheses, reconstruct events, and develop defensible conclusions. The Electrical Engineer may

also assist in preparing exhibits and supporting materials for clients and, as experience grows, may provide deposition and trial support as a technical expert.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct forensic investigations involving electrical systems, equipment, wiring, power distribution, controls, appliances, machinery, and electrical-related fires or failures.

• Inspect residential, commercial, industrial, and other electrical installations at incident sites.

• Determine the origin, cause, sequence of events, and contributing factors associated with electrical failures and incidents.

• Perform electrical engineering calculations, failure analysis, testing, and technical evaluations.

• Examine electrical components and equipment for evidence of overload, short circuiting, arcing, overheating, improper installation, manufacturing defects, mechanical damage, or other failure mechanisms.

• Collect, preserve, document, and analyze physical and photographic evidence from investigation sites.

• Review electrical drawings, schematics, specifications, installation records, maintenance records, inspection reports, codes, standards, and other technical documentation.

• Evaluate compliance with applicable electrical codes, standards, manufacturer requirements, and accepted engineering practices.

• Prepare detailed forensic engineering reports documenting investigative methods, observations, analysis, conclusions, and supporting evidence.

• Develop technically sound opinions that can withstand scrutiny from clients, opposing experts, attorneys, insurers, and regulatory authorities.

• Communicate technical findings effectively through written reports, presentations, meetings, and verbal discussions.

• Assist attorneys and clients with technical aspects of claims, disputes, subrogation matters, product liability cases, construction defects, and litigation.

• Provide deposition and trial support and, when qualified, serve as an expert witness.

• Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and other forensic experts as necessary.

• Manage multiple investigations and projects while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality technical work.

• Travel to investigation sites as required.

Qualifications

• Professional Engineer license in good standing (multiple states licensure is desirable).

• At least five (5) years' experience in electrical engineering field work.

• Be physically capable of, and willing to work safely in occasionally dirty or challenging environments and in Texas summer heat.

• Be willing and comfortable to provide competent expert witness testimony either by deposition or in open trial settings.

• Articulate in speech, well-groomed and professional in personal appearance.

• Available for distant travel and overnight stays.

• Listens to and accepts constructive criticism.

• Strong foundation in Electrical Engineering principles, including electrical theory and practical application in industrial and commercial settings.

• Demonstrated experience or coursework in Electrical Design and related analysis for building or industrial systems.

• Knowledge of Power Systems and Power Distribution, including fault analysis, protective devices, and applicable codes and standards.

• A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.

• Experience or strong interest in forensic engineering, failure analysis, or incident investigation is beneficial.

• Proficiency in technical writing, documentation, and preparation of clear, evidence-based reports.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical issues to non-technical audiences.

• FAA Licensed Pilot is a plus.
