Job summary

Great Plains Manufacturing, Inc. in Assaria, KS, seeks a Design Engineer I to join our R&D team to design agricultural implements. This on-site role involves concept development through production, prototyping, testing, and DFMA.

You will create detailed drawings and BOMs, collaborate with manufacturing, and present design concepts to leadership. Travel may be required during development and testing.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field, 0–3 years of experience.
• Experience with PTC Creo, SolidWorks, Windchill, FEA tools and MS Office.
• Understanding of manufacturing methods in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communicator and team player.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of hydraulics and electronics integration is a plus.
• Knowledge of castings/forgings/plastics design is a plus.
• Knowledge of farming practices helpful.
• Willing to travel out of state for development/testing.

Responsibilities

• Design new large Ag implements and OEM products from concept through production.
• Manage design projects from concept, prototyping, testing to DFMA.
• Support manufacturing to ensure fabrication, welding and assembly per design.
• Present concepts, features, opportunities and challenges to management.
• Use analysis software and field testing to optimize designs.
• Create detailed drawings, BOMs, test plans, etc.
• Suggest improvements to production methods and equipment.
• Follow safety regulations and wear PPE.
